Inclusive Challenge: SEND/EAL Scaffolding That Keeps Standards High
Stop Sacrificing Standards for Inclusion. Start Seeing Success for ALL Students.
Are you tired of feeling torn between keeping standards high and meeting the complex needs of your SEND & EAL students?
You're not alone. The challenge of providing effective scaffolding without watering down the curriculum is one of the toughest facing educators today.
Join our 4-day, 8-CPD hour virtual workshop and equip yourself with a proven, practical toolkit to confidently deliver high challenge and high support in every lesson. You will learn to cater to diverse needs (from language load to executive function) while maintaining classroom-wide rigour and building true student independence.
What You Will Learn
This highly practical workshop is spread across four Saturdays in May, giving you time to apply and reflect on your learning between sessions. You will walk away with immediately usable strategies and an adapted lesson plan ready for your classroom.
Over 8 CPD Hours, you will master the skills to:
- Implement "High Challenge, High Support": Understand the crucial difference between genuine adaptation and simply lowering expectations.
- Diagnose Hidden Barriers: Identify common learning barriers (working memory, language load, processing speed) for SEND and EAL students and match them to the most effective scaffold.
- Audit and Redesign Tasks: Quickly analyze tasks for hidden demands (vocabulary density, multi-step instructions) and redesign them for universal access without simplifying the thinking.
- Plan with Scaffold Layers: Apply the "pre-teach → model → guided practice → gradual release" sequence to protect rigour and increase independence systematically.
- Use Practical, Cross-Subject Strategies: Gain expertise in techniques like chunking, dual coding, structured notes, worked examples, and quick, targeted feedback routines.
- Design EAL Language Supports: Implement powerful language supports (sentence stems, speaking frames, key vocabulary selection) that benefit the whole class's academic language.
- Build Independence: Develop a clear plan for gradually removing scaffolds over time to foster confident, self-regulated learners.
